Open Farm Day

On July 24th, 2016 the second national Open Farm Day is to take place!

More than 200 farms and agricultural producers across Estonia are expected to open their farm doors to receive visitors.

The visitors will be able to see large and small farms, exciting agricultural technology, various animals and plants. The visitors can taste real farm food and buy local products. Each farm has its own programme, displaying the farm’s particularities.

Open Farm Days are organised in many countries across the world, including Finland, Sweden, UK, USA, Australia etc.

The initiative of the Estonian National Open Farm Day was born from cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Rural Affairs, the Rural Economy Research Centre and Järvamaa Avatud Talud (Open Farms of Järva County).

During the first 2015 National wide Open Farm Day 147 farms were opened with more than 50 000.

Open Farm Day Trip on 24-25 July 2016

Estonian Rural Network Unit will organise the Open Farm Day Trip for collegues and international guests on 24-25 July 2016.

Collegues from European Union countries and Nordic-Baltic Region, from National Rural Networks, Managing Authorities, Local Action Groups are welcome to discover Estonian farms and producers with us.

Programme will consist of visit to different kind of farms: small and big, milk production and alternative farms. We hope that the study tour will offer a good and realistic picture of rural life in Estonia.

Sunday, 24th July 2016 Day 1
08.30	Departure by bus from Tallinn city centre meeting point - National Opera Theatre "ESTONIA" MAP

10.45 - 11.45	Visit to FARM Korjuse-Vanapere (Kloostrimetsa SCA, Määra village, Padise, Harju County). Beef cattle breeding, apple and pear trees plantation; Seaberrys and chokeberry growing. 12.20 - 13.30	Visti to rural tourism farm and holiday centre UusKalda (Kärbla village, Lääne-Nigula, Lääne Country). Camping, holiday centre, saunas. 14.35 - 15.20	Visit to Enno talu. (Laukna village, Märjamaa, Rapla County) Gardening. Specialty: cold-resistant ferns - cultivation and sale. Enno Farm is one of the few Estonian households engaged in the cultivation of ferns. Host Mr Aivar Kaljuste

13.10 - 14.00	Visit to Metsamõisa FARM - Pure Water Theme Park - Is located between two villages, two municipalities and two county crossing of point. (Järsi and Pikavere villages in Järva and Western-Viru counties). Theme Park focuses on the topic of clean water. Offers nature studies and hiking trips to everybody, including disable people in wheelchair nature track. You can also find the therapeutic Sense Garden.
