Project title: Viiratsi Village Games 2010
MEASURE: Leader
Measure name: Leader measure
Theme: village development
Start year: 2010
Local action group: LAG Võrtsjärve Association
Name of the beneficiary: NGO Viiratsi Spordiklubi
Sum of support: 6 524 EUR
Objectives of the project: The aim of the project is to unite the community through sport and to purchase necessary equipment to continue the tradition of the event. The instructions of games were compiled the way that these would be suitable for all sport lovers - men, women, children and older local people. The project also helped to improve the cooperation inside the community. Definitely it is a follow-up event that takes place all year round. One of the priorities was to improve the living quality through sport activities.
Main activities: The project included organizing 12 different sport activities: ergo-meter rowing, skiing, table tennis, football, petanque, athletics, cross-country biking, air-gun shooting, triathlon, volleyball, street basketball and different competitions for older people. They also purchased sporting equipment for the sport competitions which can also be used for the further development of municipality's sport life. The sport games also found out the most active villages of the area. The system of the competition were sticking to one rule - every participant is important and necessary for the village.
Output and results indicators: The project was a good example of villages activation, they involved children, and also family members who have left the area because of studies or work.

The project involved over 900 members of municipality. The village life enlivened and the coherence of community raised. The participation was important but not the competition itself. The involvement of youth was increased and information flow was improving. Every participant got to know her limits and also there was a need for independent training outside the competition. The project manager understood that the started event is sustainable and needs educating the participants and raising the knowledge about healthy diet and exercising. Project joined and brought together different gorups and families in the villages including former and present kindreds of community leaders.

Viiratsi community is now definitely more unified and many new contacts with neighbor villages are made. People come to home more often. People are interested in practicing opportunities in other villages. Inhabitants have an opportunity to make their lives more interesting and what is most important - people don't need money to deal with sport.
Experiences/lessons learned: To prove the sustainability of the project a next project has already applied. This project includes sport games and in addition to that a training to raise local people's awareness about sport - how to sport without damaging your health.
