Backround of the project: The history of Kärdla as a settlement and town (since 1938) is related with milled cloth fabric, established in 1830, which grew and developed with the city. The modern living-style brought along some urban manners which were quite strange in usually quite agricultural Hiiumaa Island. One odd habit was drinking the coffee - the tradition was rooted in 1860 by a wife of a French waistband crafter named madam Briancourt. Nobody hadn't seen or drunk this currently very popular, but this time weird drink before. This is the story how inhabitants of Kärdla got their nickname - coffee bota.

The event which has been held for 5 times already, has gained enormous popularity in the island, in Estonia and in other countries near Baltic Sea. Kärdla Cafe Days is this unique innovation which is located in all over the town to celebrate the title of coffee bota.

The August starts with the Cafe Days in Kärdla town! It is a special day when all these different cafes are opened in yards, gardens, harbour, museum and even on the grass... in 15 different places in total! Every cafe is different, but one thing is still common for all of them - they are just right places to spend a cosy and nice day.
