EUROPEAN COMMISSION: 3rd Meeting of SCAR SWG AKIS 5

The SCAR SWG AKIS meeting in Budapest will be the third meeting of the 5th mandate endorsed by the SCAR plenary in December 2018. It is specific role is to start to discuss the following topics defined in the 5th mandate:

1) Social innovation and inclusiveness in AKIS

One of the aims of SCAR AKIS group is to help member states with the planning and implementation process of their AKIS related activities. One of the topics accepted in our 5th mandate was to explore the possibilities of social innovation and inclusiveness in AKIS. At this meeting we propose to highlight the social innovation elements of AKIS strategy and action plans, taking into account the full range of rural socio-cultural contexts in the different Member States. We would like to learn from and discuss the experiences of the MSs current RDP measures and the results of the relevant H2020 projects.

We would like to explore the following AKIS related social innovation areas: ageing farmers and generational renewal; social situation of farm employees; rural communities’ opinion and acceptance of farmers and farming; differences in size and education level of farms and farmers; social inclusion of marginalized groups through farming.

2) Advisory services within AKIS

·       H2020 projects on analyzing and modernizing  advisory services

Another topic of the 5th mandate relates to AKIS policies. Here we will discuss on the basis of 2 projects working on the analysis of past and the modernization of advisory approaches under the CAP post 2020.

·       AGRILINK is a H2020 multi-actor project that to stimulate sustainability transitions in European agriculture through better understanding the roles played by farm advice in farmer decision-making.
To this end, AgriLink analyses the role of farmer advice in 8 innovation areas on new challenges, while also including a work package on governance of advisory services.

·       I2Cconnect is a H2020 multi-actor project aiming to fuel the competences of advisors who will support and facilitate interactive innovation processes responding to multiple challenges in European agriculture and forestry.
