Are you passionate about the more sustainable future of food? Then, Garage48 Food is open for registration! Ideas have to be submitted by 15 November!

🥥WHAT?

In co-organization with Garage48, Estonian University of Life Sciences and Estonian Research Council, and in partnership with Polli Horticultural Research Center, TFTAK, TalTech, BioCC, and Tartu Biotechnology Park (EIT Food Hub in Estonia), a second food technology hackathon will take place 27-29 January 2023 in Estonia, to find solutions to different challenges in the food industry.


🍋 WHO?

Garage48 invites bio- and food technologists, all food enthusiasts and idea owners, chefs, nutritionists, food safety professionals, agriculturers, educators, food policy experts, entrepreneurs, developers, marketers, business visionaries, and (UX/UI) designers to contribute to developing more environmentally friendly and healthy eating habits in food technology, and solve the challenges of food systems and production.

🍓HOW AND WHERE?

Physical food related solutions

Submission of science-driven ideas is open until 15 November. Selected ideas will have 2-month access to our partner laboratories (TFTAK, BioCC, TalTech, Polli Horticultural Center and the food laboratory of the Estonian University of Life Sciences) with the necessary mentorship to develop their products!

The product owner will bring his/her prototype for tasting to the event for the jury, and within 48 hours, his/her team has to create a business and marketing plan, a concept for packaging and some branding, together with a clickable prototype of their product (a mobile app, landing page). And the product is ready to be launched!

Software development-related solutions

Teams must develop a clickable prototype in 48 hours. Submission of software-related ideas is open until 20 January.

Garage48 Food hackathon 2022/23 on January 27-29 is an entirely ON-SITE event at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu.

🍎 TEAM FORMATION

Team formation takes place on Eventornado.

Physical food related solutions

If you have an idea, submit it on Eventornado by 15 November and mark down all the members you need so registered individuals can join your team. If you register as an individual without an idea, you can browse through others' ideas and “APPLY” to join an idea where your skills are needed and that you like.

You can also register and submit your idea as a team if you already have the people you want to work with at the hackathon. If you need any additional team members, they can apply to join your idea on Eventornado as well.

Software development-related solutions

You can register as an individual or a team, with an idea or without. You can put together your own team in the process or join someone else's team.

In both cases, the team should consist of at least 4 members - an idea owner/field expert (food technology), designer, business developer and marketer. Teams should be completed by the start of the hackathon in January.

🍓PRIZES

The best solutions will be awarded sweet prizes that help the teams to develop their prototypes further and get them ready to enter the market. The prize pool is growing. Stay tuned for updates!

🚌 TRANSPORT AND ACCOMMODATION

Transportation for participants to get to the hackathon venue in Tartu will be organized from Tallinn. Organizers will also do their best to provide accommodation for participants outside of Tartu. More information will be given on an ongoing basis.
